The Adamawa Emirate whose influence extend to the Cameroons of Tibati and environs was founded by Modibbo Adama in 1809 with its Headquarters at Gurin (1809 -1831).

A new admistrative Headquarters of Adamawa was established at Ribadu in 1831.

In 1839 Adamawa Headquarters was moved to Njoboliwo.

From 1885 Adamawa Headquarters is now in Nyola.
